Alma 53: 10-18 Oaths and Covenants

1. Lamanites converted to LDS

2. They made covenants to put down their weapons

3. Because they obeyed their covenant, they were blessed and protected by the Nephites

By obeying the Lord's commandments, we will be blessed. We may not know what the Lord has in store for us, but trust him that he has a bigger plan.

Alma 48: 11-13, 16-17 Moroni Living in Faith

If we live in faith, like Moroni, we will be protected from the power of Satan

Alma 51; 5, 9, 12, 19, 22-23, 26-27 Contention and Dissention

Contention: strife between people

Dissention: the act of division or dividing people into factions

Why do the scriptures give repeated warning of contention?

• So we can be prepared for when contention arrives

3 Nephi 11:29:

• Contention is not Christlike

• Contention is of the devil who is the "father of contention"

• He stirreth up the hearts of man

Alma 60-61: Lord Expects us to Defend Freedom

• pray for the Lord to bless all nation's leaders

• fight for your freedoms without contention

• You can be confrontational without causing contention

• Expressing what bothers you in a respectful manner
